Becoming a Mentor
Become a Mentor
Mentors are an important part of The Village OC.
This role is about making room in your life for a young adult and being willing to stay connected as you get to know one another. It isn’t about having all the answers. What matters is being dependable and willing to invest in the relationship.
What Mentoring Looks Like
Mentors and young adults connect regularly and spend time together throughout the month.
Some of that time may be as simple as grabbing a meal or catching up over the phone. Other times, a young adult may want someone to talk something through with or ask a question.
A mentor isn’t there to take the place of a parent, counselor, or case manager. They are another person in a young adult’s life who chooses to be present and stay connected.
Mentors also take part in our monthly gatherings. These shared evenings give mentors and young adults a chance to be part of the larger Village beyond their one-on-one relationship.
Before You Begin
We want mentors to feel prepared before entering a mentoring relationship.
Prospective mentors complete an application and screening process before participating in training with The Village OC. We’ll walk you through each step before mentoring begins.
Once you’re a mentor, you’ll also have ongoing support from The Village OC.
